Tiffany Jones Fundraising Dance - Friday, January 31st!

This Friday, January 31st, there will be a Fundraising Dance for Tiffany Jones, one of the young dancers and helpers for Bailey Dance. Tiffany is trying to raise money to go on her first mission trip to London, England over Spring Break. Admission for the dance is a minimum $5, but you are welcome to and encouraged to do more. Light refreshments will be available. Dress is casual. The dance will be from 7:30 to 10:30pm. There will be recorded music on Bailey's great, new sound system.  Kim and Steve will see you there.


Dr. Dance "New Years Party"

Dr. Dance hopes your Holidays were terrific and we wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year. We would like to thank everyone for helping us to have a great 2013 and especially Bailey Dance for making the move and experience in sharing space with them so easy and wonderful. Chris and Emily and all the Bailey Dance family have made us feel welcome and have us looking forward to 2014 together. Bailey Dance, right now is competing at "World's" and we wish them all the best. The early results have been terrific.

To start the New Year right, Dr. Dance will have a " New Year's Dance" this Friday, January 3rd from 8:00pm to 10:30pm at the "Bailey Dance" location, 1853 Montgomery Hwy S, Suite 103 in Hoover. At 7:30pm there will be a Free Beginners Group Class in Jitterbug (single rhythm swing). The "Dance" will follow immediately at 8:00pm. This will be the first party with the "fabulous, new music system" at Bailey's. What a sound...WOW! Combine that with the best in danceable, recorded music and some "Get Acquainted Mixers" and you get a great dance party experience. Come One and Come All. Our dance is "OPEN TO THE PUBLIC". Admission is $10 per person. Light refreshments will be provided.



Dr. Dance Spotlight Coming June 7th, 2013

Dr. Dance will hold it next semi-annual "Spotlight" on Friday, June 7th at 7:00pm. There will be exhibitions in both choreographed solo routines and mock-freestyle competition dancing in International Ballroom as well as American Smooth and Rhythm. These will be broken into 2 shows. Before, between and after the shows will be general dancing for everyone. We have dancers from Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Anniston, Montgomery and Starkville (MS) participating. There will also be special refreshments. Admission at the door is only $10 per person and is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. The Dr. Dance Spotlight is a very popular event, so plan on joining us. Our next OPEN DANCE will be on August 2nd, due to the first Friday in July falling during the July 4th Holiday Weekend.


We're Moving!

Dr. Dance will be moving to 1853 Montgomery Hwy. S in Hoover, in order to share space with Bailey Dance, beginning Monday, April 1st. We will have many more details coming soon, so keep checking "Our Blog".


"DWTS" Judge at USA Dance Nationals!


The USA Dance Nationals were held in Baltimore, MD, on March 30th and 31st and April 1st at the Rennaisance Harborplace Hotel. On Friday the competitions ran from 8am to Midnight and on Saturday and Sunday from 7am to Midnight. USA Dance National Championships were awarded in International Ballroom and Latin as well as American Smooth and Rhythm categories in ages Pre-teen through Senior and some of the couples qualified to possibly represent the United States in the World Championships as well. Celebrity Judge, Carrie Ann Inaba from "Dancing With The Stars" bestowed some special " Star Quality Awards". Kim Smith was asked to judge and did so for the weekend, leaving Steve Hadley to keep notes on the dancers that we coach and helping them out wherever possible.

     The dancers that I was keeping tabs on did very well and made Dr. Dance very proud. Here are some results. Carmine Rucco and Maria Bolyard:Senior I Gold and Novice Rhythm Champions, Senior I Gold Smooth-5th Place and Senior I Silver Ballroom-6th Place. Richard Stewart and Melanie Tichenor:Senior I Gold Ballroom-6th Place, Senior I Novice BallroomII-4th Place, Senior II Gold Ballroom-6th Place and Senior II Novice Smooth-6th Place. Bob and Debbie Pratico:Senior III Gold Smooth-3rd Place, Senior III Novice Ballroom-2nd Place and Senior III Novice Smooth-5th Place. Jim Crowell and Sterling Sightler:Senior III Bronze Ballroom-6th Place and Senior III Silver Smooth-6th Place. Jerry and Irina Donahue:Adult Bronze Smooth-7th Place, Senior I Bronze Smooth-4th Place and Senior I Silver Smooth-6th Place. 1 couple was from Birmingham, AL, 2 couples from Huntsville, AL, 2 couples from Baton Rouge, LA and 1 couple from New Orleans, LA.

     Carrie Ann Inaba was very visible throughout the weekend. She was generous with her time, taking pictures with anyone who wanted including Bobbie Hawk and Mark Orr, also Carmine Rucco and chatting with people. Carrie Ann is also the Official National Celebrity Ambassador for USA Dance beginning this year.
